Recap AFWA National Conference October 26th – 28th
Our AFWA 2015 National Conference was a big success in Pittsburg, PA this year. We started off Sunday with an orientation meeting for new members. Then Sunday evening had an Event called the Foundation Amazing Race. This is where we had teams of 4 move between 8 stations and have to perform timed shenanigans themed around Mr. Rodgers, “It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhoods”. It was fun, goofy and very interactive and a great way to meet other AFWA members. Monday morning started off with our Keynote Speaker, Dawnna St. Louis, “Stand up, Stand Out, Lean in”, what an amazing story of a woman who rose herself up from being homeless to having sold a business and now is an International Public Speaker. It was a great way to start off a conference. Tuesday we started our day hearing from Greg Kyte, CPA “Holy mother of Fraud” with his great insight to the world of fraud. Wednesday was our Annual Excellence Awards were we saw so many of our chapters awarded for their tireless work and excellence in their commitment to AFWA.
We also learned about AFWA’s Leap Initiative which is a group of emerging leaders who voices are sure to be heard by AFWA for members 35 years and younger. This group of younger AFWA members were strong at our conference and are sure to keep AFWA strong for many years to come. We also learned there are over 80 chapters nation wide in AFWA this year, showing strong leadership and strength nationwide for AFWA.
From our inspiring Keynote speaker, Dawnna St. Louis to our breakout session speakers, everyone was very informative and inspiring. We were taught my Leslie Ungar, of Electronic Impulse, how to deliver a steller speach and by Julie Baron how to face the challenges of Business Travel and by Tyler Enstin how to have a perfect memory. Additionally, our very own, D0loras Lara, had a breakout session on “Negotiate the Salary you Deserve”. The breakout sessions were very good overall. Everyone had a wonderful time and received great value from the conference for their 3 or 4 days of attendance. It was certainly well worth our time to attend. We are looking forward to our conference next year in Denver, CO.
